Tips To Be Healthy At An Italian Restaurant
- Skip the basket bread
- Try vegetable appetizers: roasted peppers, mushrooms, artichokes…
- Avoid appetizers such as fried mozzarella sticks and choose grilled octopus or calamar instead
- Choose the marinara sauce for your pasta and skip the white sauce; Cream-based sauces have far more fat than red sauces
- Watch out for pesto. It may be green, but it isn’t as healthy as it looks. Pesto is very high in fat, containing lots of olive oil, cheese and nuts
- Get the thinnest crust you can when ordering pizza
- Avoid meats that are high in fat like pepperoni and sausage
- Avoid high-carb desserts like tiramisu or panna cotta or split it with a friend
- Have a scoop of sorbet as dessert
