At least 40% of adults make one or more resolutions each year, and at least two-thirds of them to change something unhealthy. The popular resolutions concern fitness, weight gain and smoking. Here are healthy resolutions specific for men and solutions to help them achieve it.

New Year’s Resolution No. 1: Get Fit

When men want to get fit, they tend to aim for weight loss in the stomach area and muscular definition. They rely only on weight lifting to reach that target.

Solution: To achieve these goals, men need to participate in a balanced exercise program that involves strength training for all the major muscle groups. They also need to participate in some aerobic exercise, because that’s going to aid them to expend energy and burn calories. In addition, good nutrition is crucial to fitness success.

New Year’s Resolution No. 2: Watch What You Eat

Potatoes and meat have somehow been associated with manly men. There is certainly nothing wrong with a tasty piece of steak, but overindulgence can be a problem.

Solution: To lose weight, a well-balanced diet is recommended, with emphasis on fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Instead of a beefsteak, try salmon steaks or tuna.

New Year’s Resolution No. 3: Go to the Doctor

Men, especially at younger ages, tend to discount pain and see themselves as indestructible. As they grow up, they are raised to think of themselves as protectors and providers. A high percentage of the time men go to the doctor because their wife sent them. However, by the time they go, their condition could have progressed to more troublesome stages.

Solution: Promise yourself that you’ll go to the doctor if something doesn’t feel right. These screening tests for men are recommended: Cholesterol Checks, blood pressure, diabetes, colorectal cancer tests, depression, prostate cancer screening.
