  • Skip the basket bread
  • Try vegetable appetizers: roasted peppers, mushrooms, artichokes…
  • Avoid appetizers such as fried mozzarella sticks and choose grilled octopus or calamar instead
  • Choose the marinara sauce for your pasta and skip the white sauce; Cream-based sauces have far more fat than red sauces
  • Watch out for pesto. It may be green, but it isn’t as healthy as it looks. Pesto is very high in fat, containing lots of olive oil, cheese and nuts
  • Get the thinnest crust you can when ordering pizza
  • Avoid meats that are high in fat like pepperoni and sausage
  • Avoid high-carb desserts like tiramisu or panna cotta or split it with a friend
  • Have a scoop of sorbet as dessert
